Last weekend (10th & 11th November) we were at Mostyn Gallery for the 2018 North Wales Print Fair.

The hugely successful event was attended by over 1500 people along with a collection of some of the countries finest printmakers.

We rejoiced when we were kindly invited to support the event by doing letterpress demonstrations in a dedicated space; but nothing could prepare us for the interest we received over the two days.

We tried to keep a count of how many people used one of the presses but alas it was too difficult as there were very few moments to pause let alone count.

We were joined at the event by the amazing Dulcie of Mostly Flat who is one of our guest tutors at ffowndri; and her fantastic partner Aiden. Her enthusiasm for sharing the craft with others was relentless and in truth we couldn’t have done it without her, so are extremely grateful.

We met lots of characters at the event including a time served compositor who shared tales of the old days. We never get tired of hearing the kinds of stories he shared with us but what made it even more special was watching his face light up as those memories come back to him from over 50 years ago.

We expected to receive some stick for our quick magnet compositions on the proofing press but this method worked fantastically for what we wanted to achieve as it enabled us to quickly compose and print words for the dozens of children and adults we had lined up all weekend.

The four of us ended the weekend exhausted but are still overjoyed with how many people we shared the letterpress craft with and the happiness that was shared on the smiley faces as they lifted their prints off the bed.

Mostyn Gallery has a number of events in the pipeline for 2019 including a craft fair and next years print fair. Information about these events will be shared on their events page when available: https://www.mostyn.org/future-events
